Local Group: Most galaxies are
thought to lie in groups that are
bound together by their mutual
gravitational attraction. Our own
galaxy, the Milky Way, is part of a
small association called the Local
Group. The Local Group is about 5
million light years across and
contains only two large spiral
galaxies: the Milky Way and the
Andromeda Galaxy. The remaining
members of this group are a few
dozen dwarf and small, irregular
galaxies.
